Colour Bass
Located in 1 route
Colour Bass is bright, harmonically rich dubstep that combines melodic dubstep, riddim, future bass, and supersaw-heavy sound design. It uses metallic but consonant basses, sparkling chords, anime/game-like melodies, and vivid tonal shifts, usually keeping dubstep's half-time drop but replacing darkness with saturated emotional color.
History
The style crystallized in the late 2010s around Chime's Rushdown ecosystem and producers such as Ace Aura, Skybreak, Sharks, Paper Skies, Convexity, Papa Khan, and Au5-adjacent melodic bass circles. It developed partly as an answer to the grayscale brutality of riddim and tearout, keeping technical bass design while restoring melody, major-key brightness, and playful harmonic motion. Colour Bass influenced melodic riddim, kawaii bass-adjacent sounds, and a broader generation of producers who treat bass timbre as chord color.
