Cocktail Exotica is exotica designed for the glass-in-hand hour: vibraphone, brushed drums, bongos, piano, muted trumpet, strings, soft vocals, tropical percussion, and occasional bird-call seasoning. It runs mostly from 60 to 115 BPM, emphasizing elegance, wit, and sensual atmosphere rather than full jungle theater. History

The style grew from the intersection of exotica, cocktail jazz, torch singing, and stereo lounge LPs. Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Les Baxter, Henry Mancini, Julie London, and Esquivel supplied the classic vocabulary, while Robert Drasnin gave late-period exotica a sophisticated arranger's depth. Cocktail Exotica became a key component of the 1990s lounge revival and remains active wherever tiki bars, retro hotels, and modern cocktail culture need music that feels vintage without becoming mere background wallpaper.
