Cloud Bass
Located in 1 route
Cloud Bass is the hazy, beat-scene side of bass music where trap drums, R&B samples, ambient pads, and cloud-rap mood dissolve into soft-focus electronics. It favors sub weight and head-nod swing over aggressive drops, often using smeared vocal loops, detuned synths, and spacious reverb to create a floating, narcotic feel. The style sits near chill trap, witch house, future garage, and instrumental cloud rap.
History
Cloud Bass emerged from early-2010s online beat culture, where producers connected Southern rap drum programming to indie-R&B, ambient electronics, and underground hip-hop. Clams Casino's instrumentals gave the sound a public center, while Shlohmo, Giraffage, Ryan Hemsworth, Friendzone, XXYYXX, Holy Other, oOoOO, Flume, and Cashmere Cat carried related textures into electronic and pop-adjacent spaces. Even after the label faded, its atmosphere remained in chill trap, cloud rap production, future bass, and playlist-era downtempo.
