Post-rock written like a film score: sweeping, emotionally telegraphed builds, piano and string motifs, glacial reverb-drenched guitars, and crescendos engineered for maximum sweep. Grand, melancholic and widescreen, it trades the genre's avant edge for soundtrack-ready catharsis. Heavily licensed to film and trailers, it aims straight for the lump in the throat.
History
Emerged as bands like This Will Destroy You (Texas, formed 2004) and God Is an Astronaut sanded post-rock's noise into lush, orchestral builds. Iceland's Sigur Rós popularized the widescreen palette; the style became a trailer-music staple through the late 2000s, its slow-burn grandeur defining a film-scoring sub-current of post-rock.
