The faith-market answer to TRL-era teen pop: bubblegum hooks, choreographed boy/girl groups and youthful solo stars singing wholesome, faith-flavored lyrics over glossy late-'90s/early-'00s pop production. Synth-and-drum-machine sheen, harmony-stacked choruses and clean-cut crossover ambition mirrored *NSYNC and Britney while keeping a Christian message.
History
Peaked in the early 2000s as a Christian counter to mainstream teen pop. Plus One was pitched as the Christian *NSYNC; ZOEgirl, Jump5 and solo stars Jaci Velasquez and Stacie Orrico filled youth-group playlists. Orrico crossed over with (There's Gotta Be) More to Life (2003) before the wave faded mid-decade.
