History
Emerged in the early '90s as Jars of Clay's 1995 'Flood' became one of the biggest mainstream hits ever from a Christian-label band. San Diego's Switchfoot, formed 1996, broke wide with 2003's 'The Beautiful Letdown' and 'Meant to Live,' winning a Grammy for 'Hello Hurricane.' The branch proved faith-rooted alt-rock could thrive on secular charts.
