History
Christian adult contemporary flourished in the 1980s–90s as artists brought pop-orchestral polish and inspirational balladry to the format, with Sandi Patty's soaring vocals, Wayne Watson's songwriting, and vocal groups like 4Him and Avalon defining the sound. Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant's ballad sides overlapped the lane, and the style anchored Christian AC radio and inspirational concerts.
