The jazzy, label-curated strain of lo-fi: clean-but-warm jazz-hop with crisp boom-bap drums, walking basslines, Rhodes and muted trumpet, dustier and more musical than it is murky. Smooth, daytime and coffee-shop bright rather than narcotic, built around polished instrumental beats and a recognizable house-style production sheen.
History
Defined by the Dutch label Chillhop Music (rebranded 2014-15), which built a roster of jazz-hop producers and quarterly 'Essentials' compilations plus a hugely popular YouTube channel. Acts like Birocratic, FloFilz and L'Indécis gave the scene a more song-like, jazz-literate identity distinct from the anonymous study-beat loop economy.
