History

Launched by Kid Frost's 1990 'La Raza' and A Lighter Shade of Brown's Brown & Proud, which paired West Coast funk with Mexican motifs. The style crystallized around lowrider culture and barrio pride; Lil Rob, Mr. Capone-E, Conejo and South Park Mexican carried it through the 2000s, reaching national audiences via lowrider tours rather than radio.
