Chicago Blues Band focuses on the full-group version of the city style: guitar and harp out front, bass and drums shaping shuffle or slow-blues flow, and piano or organ rounding out the attack. The emphasis is less on singular soloists than on the sound of a unified working band hitting together.

History

Chicago blues developed as a band culture as much as a songwriting or solo-guitar culture. Acts such as the Aces, Muddy Waters’ groups, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Magic Slim & the Teardrops, and later Nick Moss and the Cash Box Kings show how the band itself became the durable carrier of the city’s repertoire and feel.
