Celebrity Pop

Star-vehicle pop where persona drives the record as much as the song: glossy, on-trend production, a confident vocal and lyrics that lean into fame, image and self-mythology. Highly polished and event-driven, with rollouts, eras and visuals as central as the hook. The artist's celebrity is part of the product.

History

Celebrity pop describes records inseparable from the star's public narrative, a mode amplified by social media and the streaming-era 'album as event.' From the late 2000s, acts like Lady Gaga and later Taylor Swift built singles that fed and fed off their public personas, with rollouts, surprise drops and 'eras' turning the artist's fame into the engine of the music.
