Caribbean Pop

Pop sung from a Caribbean vantage, fusing island riddims, dancehall bounce, soca lift and reggae feel into chart pop. Patois inflections, tropical percussion and offbeat bass under big, confident hooks. Warmer and more rhythm-forward than generic pop, with artists rooted in the islands but aiming squarely at the global mainstream.
History
Barbadian and broader West Indian artists carried island sensibility into international pop, none more than Rihanna, whose early singles wore Caribbean rhythm openly. Acts like Kevin Lyttle and Rupee crossed over from soca, while later figures kept island cadence inside polished global hits through the 2000s and 2010s.
