Brutal Deathcore

The most savage wing of deathcore, fusing the down-tuned breakdown architecture of deathcore with the gore-soaked density of brutal/slam death metal. Guitars sit in drop-A or lower with thick, palm-muted tremolo blasts and abrupt 'slam' breakdowns that lurch into half-time bounce; drums alternate hyper-blasts, gravity rolls and pounding two-step grooves around 200-260 BPM. Vocals are inhumanly low — guttural gurgles, 'bree-bree' pig squeals and toilet-bowl lows stacked over deathly bends. The mood is relentlessly grotesque, technical and percussive rather than melodic.
History
Brutal deathcore crystallized in the late 2000s as deathcore bands absorbed the guttural vocals and slam riffing of brutal death metal acts like Disgorge and Devourment. Britain's Ingested (Manchester, 'The Surreption,' 2011) and the UK/US slam axis pushed it heavier, while America's Disfiguring the Goddess (Cameron Argon) and the Unique Leader and Lacerated Enemy label rosters gave it a home. Mexico's Acrania and South Africa's Vulvodynia internationalized the sound mid-decade, and Germany's Mental Cruelty and Australia's Disentomb sharpened the technical edge. The style fed the broader 'slamming deathcore' explosion and remains the genre's most extreme, gore-themed frontier.
