Breakcore is breakbeat extremity: hyper-chopped drums, noise abrasion, wild tempo perception, violent edits, and gleeful disregard for polite genre boundaries. It can borrow jungle, hardcore, speedcore, IDM, metal, or orchestral melodrama, but the core trait is break destruction as art.

History

The style emerged in Europe and North America as hardcore, jungle, experimental electronic, and political noise scenes collided. Alec Empire, Venetian Snares, Kid606, Bong-Ra, Enduser, and later revival-minded acts turned breakcore into one of electronic music’s most chaotic and influential outsider traditions.
