Breakbeat House

Breakbeat House is the early house/rave lane where producers kept house's club tempo and sampling culture but used chopped breakbeats, bleep bass, rap snippets, and rave riffs instead of a simple four-on-the-floor drive. It is the bridge between acid house, hip-house, bleep, early hardcore, and later breakbeat. The records often sound raw and transitional: part warehouse house, part hip-hop edit, part U.K. rave blueprint.
History
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, U.K. producers and DJs were absorbing Chicago house, Detroit techno, New York hip-hop, Jamaican sound-system culture, and Belgian rave. Tracks by M|A|R|R|S, Unique 3, Blapps Posse, The Scientist, Shut Up and Dance, A Homeboy, A Hippie & A Funki Dredd, and Rhythm On The Loose showed how house could swing with breakbeats. That formula fed directly into breakbeat hardcore, early jungle, and later old-school rave revivals.
