History

Brazilian pop grew from MPB and 1980s rock, with Bahia's axé carnival pop (Ivete Sangalo) dominating the 1990s-2000s. In the 2010s Anitta fused funk carioca with mainstream pop and broke internationally; her 'Envolver' (2022) made her the first Brazilian to top a global music chart, globalizing the sound.
