Brazilian lounge is the bar-and-café side of modern Brazilian song, combining bossa rhythm, light samba pulse, jazz-colored chords, and a relaxed but polished presentation. Electric piano, soft guitar, understated percussion, and murmured vocals or breezy instrumentals are central.

History

Once bossa nova moved from avant-apartment style to an internationally marketable mood, a broader Brazilian lounge sensibility formed around artists such as Astrud and Bebel Gilberto, João Donato, Walter Wanderley, Marcos Valle, and Eliane Elias; it became the export-friendly face of urbane Brazilian cool and remained active in hotels, compilation culture, and modern lounge revivals.
