Contemporary Christian pop and worship in Portuguese: polished pop-rock and ballad production — piano, ambient electric guitars, pads, drums and soaring choruses — carrying praise-and-worship and testimony lyrics. Tempos range from intimate 68–80 BPM worship ballads to driving mid-tempo anthems; the singing is emotive, powerful and congregation-facing. Modeled on global CCM and worship music but with Brazilian melodic sensibility, it is one of the best-selling and most-streamed sectors of Brazilian music.
History
Brazilian gospel pop professionalized in the late 1990s and 2000s as evangelical churches and dedicated labels (notably MK Music and Som Livre's gospel arm) built a full-scale contemporary Christian industry. Aline Barros became its biggest star, and the Belo Horizonte worship ministry Diante do Trono (Ana Paula Valadão) shaped congregational praise nationwide; Fernandinho's worship anthems and songwriter Anderson Freire's 'Ressuscita-me' were mass hits. A younger generation led by Gabriela Rocha ('Atos 2,' 'Lugar Secreto') and Isadora Pompeo carried gospel pop to streaming dominance, making it a major commercial force in 21st-century Brazilian pop.
