History
Bounce emerged in New Orleans in the early 1990s from DJs and rappers looping "Drag Rap" and related breakbeats into local party music. DJ Jimi, DJ Jubilee, Partners-N-Crime, Ms. Tee, Cheeky Blakk, Katey Red, Sissy Nobby, Big Freedia, HaSizzle, BlaqNmilD, and Fly Boi Keno made bounce a durable city language, while queer sissy bounce and later pop collaborations pushed it outward. Its club influence now appears in rap, TikTok dances, festival sets, and global bass edits, but the form remains deeply tied to New Orleans block parties, Mardi Gras, and dance crews.
