History
The style grew from electric Chicago and Delta slide sources, especially Elmore James, Muddy Waters, and Son House, as late-1960s rock guitarists sought rawer blues expression. Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Lowell George, George Thorogood, and Derek Trucks carried slide into Southern rock, blues rock, roots rock, and jam-band settings. Blues Rock Slide influenced hard rock guitar, Americana slide, modern blues-rock festivals, and the enduring guitar-shop cult of open tuning and glass bottlenecks.
