Blue-Collar Americana makes working life central: factories, job sites, bills, small-town pride, resentment, and dignity all show up in songs that still want hooks and band energy. The sound is rootsy and muscular rather than romanticized.
History
Springsteen and Mellencamp are the obvious reference points, but the subgenre widened through Midwestern, Southern, and rural bands that made class and labor more than just background scenery. It remains one of Americana's most durable moral voices.
