Bedroom R&B Pop

Home-recorded R&B-pop built on falsetto and head-voice vocals, slinky guitar licks, woozy chords, and finger-snapped or boom-bap drums laid down in a bedroom. Often iPhone- or GarageBand-made, it keeps voice-memo grain and loose pocket. Sensual, low-lit, and melodic, blending soul phrasing with lo-fi intimacy rather than polished studio R&B.
History
Steve Lacy's iPhone-produced beats for The Internet showed bedroom gear could yield Grammy-nominated R&B, and his solo 'Dark Red' (2017) became a touchstone. Brent Faiyaz's early DIY voice-note aura and Mk.gee's blurred guitar-pop pushed the sound further. Streaming and TikTok carried this intimate, self-made R&B-pop hybrid to a wide young audience.
