Self-produced pop made in literal bedrooms: soft synths, clean jazzy guitar chords, gentle drum-machine grooves and intimate, close-mic vocals. Warm, hazy and unhurried, it favors mellow chord changes and diaristic lyrics over big production—an entire DIY aesthetic born of laptops, GarageBand and the streaming/SoundCloud era's solo creators.
History
A SoundCloud/YouTube-native movement: Clairo's 2017 'Pretty Girl' webcam video and Boy Pablo's algorithm-boosted 'Everytime' showed teenagers reaching millions without labels. Cuco, Rex Orange County and Gus Dapperton built the lane around home-recorded warmth and Gen-Z candor, making bedroom pop the defining DIY pop sound of the late 2010s.
