Bedroom Electronic is intimate electronic music made to sound close to the room it came from: laptop drums, cheap synths, soft vocals, small loops, home-recorded guitars, and fuzzy textures that privilege personality over polish. It can overlap with chillwave, indie electronic, folktronica, and lo-fi beats, but the defining quality is scale. The music feels handmade and private, even when it later reaches festival or playlist audiences.

History

The style grew from home recording, IDM, indie pop, Myspace-era uploading, and affordable laptop production. Dntel, The Postal Service, Four Tet, Bibio, Panda Bear, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Baths, Tycho, Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, Yppah, Teen Daze, Memory Tapes, and early chillwave/indietronica artists made imperfect home-studio electronics feel emotionally direct. The bedroom frame later became normal across indie pop, lo-fi hip-hop, and ambient electronic releases.
