Battle rap is competitive rap built around direct confrontation, insult craft, performance pressure, and crowd reaction. Whether over beats or acapella, it rewards timing, confidence, rebuttal, punchlines, and composure under attack.

History

It began in park jams and radio-era MC competition, then reappeared in modern league format through URL, King of the Dot, Grind Time, and related circuits. Kool Moe Dee, Roxanne Shanté, Cassidy, Loaded Lux, Murda Mook, Arsonal, and many others shaped different eras of the form.
