Bass Trap is the heavy club and festival form of EDM trap, built on 808 kicks, snare-roll builds, brass or synth stabs, chopped rap energy, and drops designed for subwoofers. It is more stripped and percussive than future bass, more rap-derived than brostep, and more bass-stage oriented than mainstream hip-hop production. The style's strongest tracks leave space around the low end so the drop lands with physical impact.
History
Bass Trap exploded around 2012 as hip-hop trap drums, SoundCloud circulation, and EDM festival booking converged. TNGHT, RL Grime, Baauer, Flosstradamus, UZ, TroyBoi, Hucci, Loudpvck, Bro Safari, Yellow Claw, Snavs, and Stooki Sound helped build the lane through remixes, EPs, and live sets. Although the first boom cooled, its drum vocabulary still anchors hybrid trap, trap/future bass charts, bass-house crossovers, and hardwave/cyber-trap production.
