Baltimore Club is a fast, sample-heavy breakbeat style built around the Lyn Collins "Think" break, the Gaz "Sing Sing" break, chopped vocal commands, and blunt kick-snare pressure around 125-135 BPM. It is house and hip-hop collapsed into a functional dance tool: short loops, shouted hooks, dirty jokes, television samples, and hard edits made for dancers rather than long-form club progression. The sound can be playful, raunchy, futuristic, or raw, but the breakbeat snap is unmistakable.
History
Baltimore Club emerged from late-1980s and early-1990s Baltimore DJs translating hip-hop, house, and break records into a local party language. Frank Ski, Scottie B, Shawn Caesar, Miss Tony, DJ Booman, Rod Lee, DJ Technics, KW Griff, K-Swift, and later Blaqstarr and Mighty Mark built the canon through clubs, radio, 12-inches, and mix CDs. Its DNA directly shaped Jersey club and Philly club and later fed UK funky, Night Slugs/Fade to Mind, internet club music, and pop/rap remixes.
