Ranges from Bijelo Dugme's 'shepherd rock' folk-rock to EKV's atmospheric post-punk and Riblja Čorba's biting hard rock. Melodic, lyric-driven, frequently sociopolitical.

History

Yugoslav rock grew from 1960s beat into a major scene; Bijelo Dugme fused hard rock with Balkan folk in the 1970s, coining 'pastirski rok.' Belgrade's early-1980s new wave (Idoli, EKV) and Riblja Čorba's hard rock peaked before the 1990s wars fractured the federation, scattering the scene across now-independent national music industries.
