Bakersfield Rockabilly

Bakersfield rockabilly mixes slapback echo and early rock-and-roll propulsion with the sharper guitar tone and dancehall snap of California country. The beats are more driving than standard honky-tonk, the vocals more swaggering, and the whole thing feels like a jukebox being nudged into delightful delinquency.
History
California's club ecology never kept country, hillbilly boogie, and early rockabilly in neat separate boxes, so musicians frequently crossed lanes. The Maddoxes, early Buck-connected players, later roots revivalists like Rosie Flores and Dave Alvin, and Dwight Yoakam's rockabilly edge all show how naturally Bakersfield twang and rockabilly engine parts fit together.
