Austin Blues is Texas blues with a live-club heartbeat: shuffles, slow burners, Stratocaster sting, bar-band looseness, and a scene-wide affection for T-Bone, Freddie King, soul-blues, and roadhouse rock. The sound is polished enough for the stage but never too slick to spill a drink on.
History
Austin had older barrelhouse and country-blues roots, but it became a national blues capital when clubs such as Antone’s and venues around the University of Texas area created a meeting ground for Black Texas veterans and younger white revivalists. W.C. Clark, the Vaughan brothers, Lou Ann Barton, Angela Strehli, and related players made Austin the city where Texas blues turned from regional inheritance into a sustained modern scene.
