The core sound: clean-but-massive guitars, glossy keyboards, a powerhouse melodic tenor, and a chorus engineered to detonate across a hockey rink. Verses build tension, the bridge swells, and the hook lands with stacked harmonies and a snare that booms. Polished, melodic, unapologetically big and bright.

History

Coalesced in the late 1970s as American bands like Journey, Boston and Foreigner married hard-rock muscle to radio-ready melody and toured ever-bigger venues. FM 'album rock' radio fed it; the formula matured through the early '80s into the dominant mainstream rock sound before MTV-era glam took the crown.
