Anarcho-Punk is punk organized around anti-authoritarian politics: anti-war, animal rights, feminism, anti-capitalism, squatting, DIY labels, benefit gigs and collective ethics. Musically it can be sparse, abrasive, dubby, melodic or primitive, but the delivery usually favors urgency over polish. The style treats records as pamphlets, gigs as organizing spaces and punk itself as a way of refusing normal political and cultural obedience.
History
Crass created the central model through records, artwork, communal living and a label ecosystem that supported Poison Girls, Flux of Pink Indians, Zounds and others. Conflict, Subhumans, Rudimentary Peni and Chumbawamba expanded the scene through sharper hardcore, surreal art-punk, folk, choir and direct action. Anarcho-punk shaped crust, peace punk, riot grrrl, DIY hardcore and activist music because it made process and politics inseparable from sound.
