History
Lucinda Williams' 'Car Wheels on a Gravel Road' (1998) and John Prine's craft set the bar; Jason Isbell carried it forward with 'Southeastern' (2013) and the spellbinding 'Elephant,' cementing a writerly Americana that sat 'between Faulkner and Prine.' The Americana Music Association and No Depression scene gave the strain a name and a stage.
