History
As Americana developed into a recognized field, it gave singer-songwriters a home between country, folk, and roots rock. Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, Gillian Welch, John Prine, Lucinda Williams, and Lori McKenna became touchstones for writers whose records could be stripped to a solo rendition yet still flourish in full-band arrangements and festival-scale performance.
