History

Crystallized by DJ Shadow's all-sample landmark Endtroducing..... (1996), which proved instrumental hip-hop could be a serious album form. RJD2's Deadringer (2002) and Blockhead extended the cinematic collage approach, while Ninja Tune acts like Bonobo and Amon Tobin pushed downtempo, atmospheric directions through the 2000s.
