Ambient Glitch is slow, textural electronic music built from digital errors, clicks, skips, granular dust, soft pads, and decomposed samples. It turns malfunction into atmosphere rather than rhythm shock. The sound can feel like a scratched CD, frozen hard drive, radio snow, or close-miked electricity dissolving into ambient space.
History
Ambient Glitch grew from Oval's CD-skipping experiments, Mille Plateaux/microsound culture, laptop minimalism, ambient techno, and labels such as Raster-Noton and 12k. Oval, Fennesz, Jan Jelinek, Alva Noto, Ryoji Ikeda, Taylor Deupree, Shuttle358, Sogar, Vladislav Delay, Loscil, Tim Hecker, and Murcof helped turn digital artifacts into immersive listening. The style influenced ambient, film sound design, lowercase music, and later experimental pop textures.
