History
The style descends from Brian Eno's ambient theory, German kosmische music, minimalism, and early synthesizer experiments, then expanded through rave chillout rooms, IDM, ambient techno, and digital sound-design culture. Brian Eno, Harold Budd, The Orb, Aphex Twin, Biosphere, Global Communication, Pete Namlook, Steve Roach, Stars of the Lid, Fennesz, Tim Hecker, and Loscil all shaped different branches. It remains one of electronic music's broadest listening forms, linking art music, wellness, film, installation, and headphone culture.
