Ambient Dub slows dub technique into a floating listening space: sub-bass pulses, tape-delay trails, soft breakbeats, field textures, reggae chords, and long-form ambient drift. It is less song-driven than reggae and less kick-driven than dub techno, using dub's echo and subtraction as a way to make electronic music feel deep, warm, and panoramic.

History

The style emerged from UK chillout rooms, ambient house, post-rave comedowns, and studio dub. The Orb, Higher Intelligence Agency, Banco de Gaia, The Irresistible Force, Woob, Sounds from the Ground, Biosphere, Deep Space Network, Bill Laswell, Sub Dub, Twilight Circus Dub Sound System, and Gaudi connected Jamaican studio space with ambient electronics. Its language fed psybient, trip-hop, downtempo, ambient techno, and festival dub.
