Amapiano is South African club music known for log drums, airy pads, jazz-inflected keys, deep bass, shakers, vocal chants and long rolling grooves. It grew from local house scenes but softened the attack: spacious, sensual and hypnotic before the log drum hits. The style is social and viral, moving through taxis, township parties, dance challenges, DJs, producers and vocalists who treat the groove as a communal platform.

History

Amapiano developed in Gauteng and other South African scenes during the 2010s, with producers trading tracks online and through local DJ networks. Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, MFR Souls, Major League DJz, Busta 929, Young Stunna, Sha Sha, Focalistic, Tyler ICU and many others helped turn it from local sound into continental and global pop language. Its openness allows overlap with Afrobeats, R&B, rap and gospel.
