History
Emerged late-80s as Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, and Soundgarden-adjacent acts welded metal heaviness to alternative left-turns. Tool and Helmet pushed precision and minimalism; Deftones and System of a Down expanded the palette in the late 90s. It became the connective tissue between metal and the mainstream rock of the 90s and 2000s.
