History
The lane took shape in 1980s college-radio clubs, goth/industrial nights, Manchester and New Order-adjacent crossover, and 1990s alternative remixes. New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Talking Heads, Primal Scream, Underworld, Happy Mondays, The Chemical Brothers, The Faint, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, and Hot Chip all represent different points where alternative identity met dance-floor utility. It remains a useful umbrella for DJs who mix indie, post-punk, darkwave, electroclash, and house without moving into pure EDM.
