History
As alternative became a format, 'alt-rock' named its commercial mainstream through the mid-1990s and 2000s on stations and MTV. Acts like Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers carried it onto rock radio while later bands such as Kings of Leon and Cage the Elephant kept the accessible, riff-driven alt template charting into the 2010s.
