Pop songcraft stripped to acoustic guitar, light percussion and clean vocals, melody and hook intact but the electricity drained out. Bright strummed chords, cajon or brushed drums, the occasional cello or piano. Radio-friendly choruses delivered in an unplugged, organic frame that prizes sincerity and approachability over studio sheen.
History
Pushed mainstream by MTV Unplugged (launched 1989) and Eric Clapton's 'Unplugged' (1992), which proved hits could thrive without amps. Jewel's 'Pieces of You' (1995) and the Lilith Fair era made acoustic-led pop a commercial format; Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat and Jack Johnson carried its sunlit, beach-casual strain through the 2000s into streaming playlists.
