The style crystallized around 1990s laptop composition, IDM, glitch, microsound, Raster-Noton minimalism, Mille Plateaux, post-techno experiments, and audiovisual installations. Autechre, Ryoji Ikeda, Alva Noto, Oval, Fennesz, Jan Jelinek, Vladislav Delay, Pan Sonic, Mouse on Mars, Matmos, Mark Fell, SND, Arovane, Richard Devine, and Oneohtrix Point Never made abstraction feel musical without needing a standard song structure. Its language now appears in deconstructed club, sound design, and gallery electronics.
