Aboriginal Australian music includes ceremonial singing, clapsticks, didgeridoo or yidaki in some regions, and contemporary song forms tied to language, kinship, and Country. In modern recordings it often appears through rock, roots, or acoustic song, but the strongest examples retain a grounded sense of place and community obligation.
History
Aboriginal musical life predates colonization by millennia and cannot be reduced to any single instrument or national style. Contemporary public recognition came through artists who brought language and political assertion into popular formats, especially from the 1980s onward, while ceremonial and regional traditions continued on their own terms beyond the commercial spotlight.
