90s Country Rock

90s country rock gives country songs bigger guitar tone, pop-rock drum punch, and more aggressive stage energy while generally keeping mainstream singalong accessibility. It is cleaner than southern rock and less rootsy than alt-country, but more guitar-forward than straight country pop.

History

During country's 1990s boom, many acts pushed traditional songwriting through rock-band frameworks without leaving country radio. Travis Tritt, The Kentucky Headhunters, Brooks & Dunn at their most hard-driving, and later-adjacent artists helped make the style radio-friendly yet muscular.
