Sung, Auto-Tuned rap built on cold Roland TR-808 booms, minor-key synth pads and cavernous space - voices cracking with grief rather than flexing. The template strips away braggadocio for naked confession: long held melodic phrases, tribal-drum thump, electronic minimalism, the human and the robotic fused into one mournful instrument.

History

Born from Kanye West's 808s & Heartbreak (2008), recorded after his mother's death and a broken engagement, where he abandoned rapping for pitch-corrected singing over TR-808s. Critically polarizing at release, it quickly became the blueprint for a generation - Kid Cudi, early Drake and later melodic-rap acts cited it directly as the album that legitimized vulnerable, sung hip-hop.
