4x4 Garage

4x4 Garage keeps the regular four-on-the-floor kick of house while using UKG swing, organ bass, chopped vocals, and tougher low-end. It is closer to speed garage and vocal house than 2-step, but it still belongs to the UK garage world because the tempo, bass pressure, and MC-friendly culture are distinct from US garage. The style is useful for dancers and DJs because it carries a straight pulse without losing the lurch, shuffle, and bassline personality that made UKG recognizable.
History
Before 2-step became the commercial shorthand for UKG, much of the scene moved through 4x4 garage and speed-garage records played faster and heavier than US originals. Scott Garcia, Tuff Jam, 187 Lockdown, Double 99, Industry Standard, and DJ Luck & MC Neat helped shape the sound in clubs and on pirate radio. Later northern bassline and organ-house revivals reused the 4x4 pressure, proving that the straight-kick branch of UKG remained as durable as the broken-beat branch.
