History
By 1999, 2-step garage was crossing from specialist garage nights into the UK singles chart. Artful Dodger, MJ Cole, Sweet Female Attitude, Monsta Boy, Architechs, and Sunship helped define the smooth version, often pairing club pressure with clear R&B songwriting. Craig David's rise made the connection explicit: UKG could be a producer scene, a club sound, and a pop vocal format at once. Later revivals kept returning to this softer, romantic version because it still works for both DJs and singers.
